Ciao from Canada!

Ciao from Canada! This was our first trip to Italy and we decided to book our trip in Rome. We loved seeing the history that fills this beautiful country and especially Rome! We travelled the well-worn journey of others before us by going from Rome – Venice – Florence – Cinque terre – Florence – Naples – Rome. Needless to say it was ambitious and my feet will punish me later. At first we couldn’t seen to understand why people and shops in these regions of Italy closed / stopped working between 1pm – 5pm but after spending 2 weeks in the unrelenting sun, we sympathized. We also had gelati every other meal to ” cool down”. We love this little gem of a hotel! We hope t retrn to this wonderful country and city soon! Notes about Canada:   Toronto Raptors NBA Champions 2019! We do not live in igloos ( not all of us) We love hockey We are polite and proud! We have a beautiful country! Happy travels! 5 hints from Villa Pirandello to you!

Here are 5 suggestions that Villa Pirandello sugests you savour in the eternal city at its best:   Small glasses keep best the aroma and flavour of this magic drink. Choosing a “maritozzo alla panna” as an accompaniment is a good option. It’s worth it! The most ancient market of the city is a joyful experience with colors, scents and flavours. Do not miss the spices!   Explore its oriental shops… Go into the villa and its gardens and look for the Magic Door (Porta Magica) adorned with latin symbols and inscriptions. According to the legend, these symbols represent the formula of the philosophycal stone.   Typical frozen dessert made of grated ice, sugar and fruit syrup.  Youcan find it at the kiosks along Lungotevere.   Have a look through the key hole of the Cavalieri di Malta’s doorway, inside the square of the same name,  An interesting surprise!

THE MAGIC ALCHEMIC DOOR OF ROME

[…] The Door is situated on a corner in the square, between two weird statues which seem to be there as guardians. The main characteristics of the Door are some strange writings engraved on doorjamb and architrave. You can recognize some planet symbols, some latin writing and other mysterious symbols. It’s the Alchemic Door in Piazza Vittorio, in the heart of “chinese quarter”, in the first “villa-giardino” of Post Risorgimento Italy. In 1873, Villa Palombara, where originally the Door of Marchese Massimiliano Palombara was built, ruthlessly burned to the ground. And yet the door was disassembled piece by piece and rebuilt in the new Piazza Vittorio. On the pediment of the door you can immediately notice a latin writing saying: “There are three marvels: God and man, mother and virgin, triune and one.” The door has lots of symbols and mysterious inscriptions. And ever since they were engraved, in 1680, noboby was able to interpret them! And, at that time, a legend began circulating… It says that inside that laboratory, in 1680, an alchimist was able to obtain the philosopher’s stone, before disappearing into thin air! Escher, at Chiostro del Bramante

Chiostro del Bramante presents the wonderful anthological exhibition (more than 150 works of art) dedicated to Maurits Cornelis Escher, Dutch engraver/graphic, contextualizing his artistic language in the different cultural universes of the time. A major anthological exhibition devoted entirely to the Dutch engraver and graphic artist is opening in Rome, putting his artistic language into context and recounting the network of seemingly incompatible cultural worlds which, thanks to his art and creative drive, achieve harmony in a decidedly unique visual dimension. Curated by Marco Bussagli, with the sponsorship of Roma Capitale, the ESCHER exhibition aims to emphasize the unique way in which this scholar – because the term artist, in the usual understanding of the word, seems to be somewhat inadequate – observed nature, adopting a different viewpoint, so that beauty of geometric regularity emerges in filigree, transforming it into something magical and playful. Through his works of art the exhibition  conveys the interpenetration of simultaneous worlds, the continuous passage between three-dimensional and two-dimensional objects, but also his research into Gestalt – the psychology of shape that focused on themes of perception –, the mathematical and geometric implications of his art, the principles of visual perception and the effect that […]

TIME ELEVATOR: Travelling in the ancient Rome

You might have already been in Rome and known about the beautiful Capital, or you might have had enough days to discover all the corners of the Eternal City. But if you have time, take our advice: Catch the bus n. 60 from via Nomentana, get off in Piazza Venezia and go towards via SS. Apostoli; once you are at civic number 20, set aside every prejudice, feel like babies and go into TIME ELEVATOR, 5D Cinema of Rome! Among different shows, we advice you to choose one, on top of the others: The journey in Ancient Rome! After an almost long queue, you will jump into ancient roman forum life, in the middle of gladiators fights, highligthing the milestones of Roman history. It is a funny, emotional and educational experience, that will give you the opportunity to live in a virtual and intense way what you personally visited during your roman stay. A good alternative in case of rain, since its ticket price is not so expensive (9 euro), we recommend it to those who have more than 4 days to visit the town. You can chose among 6 languages (italian, english, french, german, spanish and russian) and after […]

Leave a footprint, ye who enter here!

It is a long story. It would take much time to tell you about all the changes, the second thoughts, the obstacles and the initial abandonments; those “Yes, let’s start it” and “we’re starting next month”. As complicated as it could be the description of our emotions, our wishes, the adrenaline, the voices and all the ideas came out during our coffee breaks. And it would be hard to make you understand how we got there! How it happened to gather here, young people working all together, with a great passion closed in their bags, transhipped around Europe, waiting to live it. And about how it happened to start living this passion right here, at Villa Pirandello. It would be nice to tell you about the story of each one of us, describe the streets, the adventures which pushed us to get through the door of this house which soon would become our second and beloved home. For the moment I’ll only tell you about some little personal pride: An exhilarating and fantastic Brasilian girl, with the habit of travel and her unbeatable talent to make all visitors feel at home, Lucy; a formidable artist, always ready to travel as […]
